KALAM FOR MORAL SCIENCE CLASSES

Kanpur: Taking note of the suicidal tendencies among engineering students, former President A P J Abdul Kalam advocated moral science classes in educational institutes. “In such classes, teachers should inform students about the struggle and hard work of great personalities and inspire them to excel in their fields,” said the scientist.
Kalam was speaking at the silver jubilee function of the Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR) on Saturday.

He said the moral science classes will not only serve as an inspiration for students undergoing mental stress but also prompt them to work hard.

He asked parents to give freedom to their children and said: “After Class X, students are pressurised by the parents to follow their choice of subjects. Instead, the students should be allowed to decide their stream.”

Kalam also exhorted researchers, technologists, planners and farmers to work together to increase the pulse production in the country. He pointed out that while the area under pulse crop has witnessed drastic decline in northern India during the last three decades, it has gone up in central and south India.
